KAREN K. McCAY (Contact Me) is the Managing Partner of the firm. In her practice, she specializes in real estate and employment law. With respect to real estate, Karen McCay’s practice involves all aspects of real estate operations and development, with special emphasis on the multi-family housing industry and the unique issues facing subsidized housing providers, including operational advice and regulatory compliance. Karen McCay also has extensive experience in all facets of employment law including counseling clients as to day-to-day employment issues, conducting investigations and defending claims.
Her considerable knowledge of real estate issues and employment matters gives her a unique perspective for her successful litigation practice before state and federal courts as well as administrative agencies such as the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Much of her practice, however, is dedicated to preventative advice and compliance counseling for both for-profit and non-profit businesses. She also conducts trainings in fair housing, sexual harassment, disability accommodation and similar subjects.
Ms. McCay graduated with honors from the University of Florida in 1991 where she majored in Finance. In 1995, she received her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from The American University Washington College of Law, where she served as Articles Editor for The American University Law Review. She is admitted to practice in both the State of California and the State of Florida. Ms. McCay supports the community through her service on the Board of Directors of the Housing Industry Foundation and the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce as well as her membership in the Junior League of San Jose.
